Kilimanjaro 2010 – time to go to Africa!

Posted on August 22, 2010

So the time has finally arrived – after months of planning, training weekends, emails and phone calls, the teams are set and I am flying out to Africa tomorrow! (Monday 23rd). For the past few days i have been super busy getting all the last minute preparations in place, updating risk assessments, re supplying first aid kits and ironing out any last minute inquires. These are the first two official expeditions i have lead as JCG Expeditions and cannot wait to get them under away!

On Tuesday i shall be putting into place all the necessary logistics and preparations ready for the first team arriving on Saturday 28th. Ill be catching up with Methley (my in-country agent) to run through the trips with him and make sure we’re both singing of the same hymn sheet!

On Wednesday/Thursday/Friday i shall be climbing Mt Meru, Kilimanjaro’s baby sister at 4566m. This is to give me a little bit of added acclimatization and for fun as i have never climbed Meru before.

On Saturday the first team arrives in the evening and we’ll probably have a a cheeky ‘Kilimanjaro’ beer to celebrate the start of their adventure and expedition up Kilimanjaro!

I shall be updating as often as possible, and once the teams arrive and on the mountain everyday, even from the summit with the help of my sat phone and my dearest father. On that note – if you would like to leave a message for the teams then please feel free to comment on these posts and they can be passed through to the team!

Right then…its late and time for bed, got to go to Africa tomorrow!
