Yah Tarquin yah – im in Tanzania darling…

Jambo! Well, the eagle has landed – or something like that! I departed LHR last night and flew through the night to Nairobi (Kenya) for 06:30 this morning before a transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport – I managed to sleep all the way…NAAAAATTT!!
Meet some really nice people on the plane – the couple i was sat next to do some amazing charity work in a couple places in Kenya including a school in Mombasa and a ‘street boys’ project somewhere further north – which sounded really fun. I also met a couple of guys climbing kili with GAP and tried my best to scare them about how hard Kili was!
Its good to be back in Moshi – really good. Everything is as i remember and i keep seeing familiar faces – even among the street sellers! Moshi still has a nice feel about it, safe and vibrant with lots of nice helpful people
I met up with Methley (my main man at Ahsante Tours) and ran through the programs, logistics etc etc which was great. Booked up a few taxis, a few nights at the backpackers and generally made a fuss about everything!
Even bumped into a World Challenge group lead by a chap i know called Glyn. They were very dirty, smelly and looked well travelled. Their adventure is almost over, they head home tomorrow. But for JCG Expeditions its only just began.
I’m super tired – been awake for far too long and desperately need to crash. Particularly as i am climbing Meru tomorrow! Meru is Kilimanjaros baby sister at just over 4500m. Nelson (my Kili guide) and i are going to do it for my acclimatisation in 3 days, just the two of us. He seems more woried about sharing the cooking than anything else! Meru looks like a great little mountain and im really looking forward to it!
Ill let you know how we get on….whats that i see….a Kilimanajaro beer with my name on it?
