HIGH ALTITUDE EXPEDITIONS

Private expeditions to all corners of the world

PRIVATE EXPEDITIONS

There is nothing in the world that compares to taking those final steps on to a major summit and the rush of emotion that floods through your body. Days, weeks and months, sometimes years have lead to that point and the reward is huge. Sometimes the sense of achievement takes a while to sink in, but no one can ever take it away from you.

-

A private expedition offers you complete flexibility, a substantially higher chance of success and greater safety margins. By keeping things small it allows me to offer unparalleled attention to detail and be there, with you, all the way to the summit.

The expedition process starts with a phone call to discuss your aims and objectives and ultimately hatch a plan to meet up for coffee and ideally get out in the mountains together in the UK.

I have come to know my private expedition clients really well having spent lots of time climbing together. Building these relationships and trust is imperative to a successful big expedition. You can contact me to discuss ideas via the Contact page, the Chat Box, or via the details at the bottom of this page.

I offer private high altitude expeditions to all corners of the world generally on a 1:1 or small scale basis. I will take care of organising and planning every element of the trip bespoke specifically to you. Your involvement is critical and throughout the process we will openly discuss the various parts of the trip.

Previous Private Expeditions:

2012 & 2014 - I organised, climbed and skied a multitude of 7000m peaks in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The expeditions were incredible, remote and exciting; with a first British ski descent of Peak Lenin & a wild self-rescue from 6500m on Peak Pobeda. In 2012 we climbed 3 x 7000m peaks in 28 days: Peak Lenin, Peak Korzhenevskaya & Peak Communism.

2016 - I received a last minute request to organise and lead a small team on a ski ascent of Elbrus. Employing a super strong team with 2 IFMGA Ski Guides, myself and my local Russian guide Konstantin, I facilitated a successful expedition with everyone skiing from the summit together!

2017 - I organised and guided Mollie Hughes 1:1 on the North side of Everest. Tailoring the expedition exactly to her budget and requirements. With an adaptable and flexible approach, alongside our Sherpas Lhakpa and Lila we all summited together on the 16th May.

Earlier in 2017 - I lead the first team ever to complete the Yukon Arctic Ultra 430 mile race in Canada. It took 12 days with temperatures down to -44 degrees!

In the same year I also organised the logistics for, and ran alongside, a speed ascent on Kilimanjaro which resulted in Becky Shuttleworth breaking the female speed record.

2018 - I had the pleasure of organising and facilitated Steve Plain's entire Guinness World-Record breaking 7 Summits Speed Record. Over the course of 4 months we travelled together around the world, quietly and systematically climbing the 7 summits*. This included tailored unique itineraries for most of the mountains, tough and cold winter ascents of Elbrus and Denali, and an early season summit on Everest. Steve's record now stands at 117 days. For an added bonus we went on to summit Lhotse (the world's 4th highest mountain) the following day before descending to basecamp.

* I didn't join Steve for Vinson.

2020 - Drawing on my experience of 20+ Himalayan expeditions with 10 summits of Ama Dablam I led a private 1:1 expedition for Rebecca Ferry. The technical nature of Ama Dablam demands unwavering attention to detail and a high level of climbing skill whilst at high altitude.

2021 - The year of 8000ers! In the spring I successfully guided Rebecca Ferry on Everest, Lhotse and an attempt to 7500m on Makalu. In the summer we are headed to Pakistan to successfully climbed K2 before returning to Nepal in autumn to climb Manaslu and Dhaulagiri! A big year!

2023 - Two private 1:1 expeditions to Himlung Himal and Ama Dablam.

"Jon worked tirelessly to pull together every aspect of this huge expedition seamlessly. We worked closely planning budgets, itineraries, logistics - all bespoke to the project.

His attention to detail and ability to forward plan meant we had very few surprises along the way. If we did, he would calmly manage the situation.

As for his strength in the big mountains - he's phenomenally strong, I couldn't have done this with anyone else"

Steve Plain  - Guiness World Record 7 Summits Speed Record, 117 days.

"Jon’s talents as a high-altitude mountain guide are exceptional. He manages to balance safety and foresight seamlessly with an ability to push you to achieve your potential.

His wealth of experience paid off and, by my side the whole way, we stood on the summit - but more importantly returned to basecamp in great shape.

I unreservedly recommend Jon as a guide for any high-altitude expedition"

Mollie Hughes - Youngest women in the world to climb Everest from both North and South.

"Jon’s climbing and organisational skills are second to none. What distinguishes him from others is his innate ability to see the bigger picture and act accordingly.

He works tirelessly and effortlessly. His imperturbable equanimity in challenging situations is both impressive and reassuring.

I can’t recommend Jon highly enough, I trust his judgment entirely and look forward to our next big expedition"

Becks Ferry - 7 x 8000m in 7 months: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, K2, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri. Private Ama Dablam.
